As part of our total commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Blackett Homes publicly reports on our OH&S performance for the previous twelve months.
During the last twelve months we have had two minor lost time injuries, these injuries required workers to have four days off work. These incidents were fully investigated and recommendations made to prevent these incidents occurring again. There were no notifiable incidents that had to be reported to ACT Work cover.
We have had three external audits during 2009. Two conducted by the Federal Safety Commission as part of our F.S.C accreditation and one audit as part of our AS/NZS 4801 accreditation. Numerous toolbox talks, site safety inspections and plant & equipment risk assessments were carried out by Blackett Homes management and our external OH&S consultant.
Blackett Homes had on-going discussions with our suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure that they are working safely and that they comply with local work cover requirements. This is done by inspecting safe work method statements, plant & equipment registers, OH&S inductions and ensuring workers have necessary training and licences to carry out their work etc.
We have had numerous OH&S meetings to ensure that our OH&S system is being adhered to and understood. We have prepared detailed site specific safety plans for all of our major sites and a ‘generic’ site safety plan for our individual houses.
We have an ongoing OH&S training program, over the past year the following training has occurred; OH&S induction process, senior first aid, use of fire extinguishers and Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety. Our training programme is ongoing.
Our basic OH&S philosophy is ‘zero harm to our entire workforce’.
