Peak Consulting, are often required to view less than acceptable work and assist owners in mediating a suitable outcome, as you can imagine this activity is most often expended on poorly managed projects. We aren’t often invited to see Blackett Homes finished products for obvious reasons. Your site supervisor, Scott, today displayed a high level of professionalism and the finished project is testimony to his ethical standards. He is obviously proud of what he does.

After looking at our options for a new home, we eliminated extending & renovating our current house in Ainslie and decided on the knock-down/rebuild.

We saw a display home we liked that was built by a Sydney based company and entered into negotiations with their Canberra representative. We settled on a plan with a few variations to the display home and paid a deposit for plan preparation. This was sent to Sydney for plan production but when it came back we found that some of the variations had not been included. This meant drawing up further variations to go back to Sydney. Again, when the plan came back, some of the variations had not been included and some had been included twice! This saga continued for several months until the point was reached where construction had not commenced by the time specified in the contract so we pulled the plug and got our deposit back. The difficulties of working at arm’s length through an intermediary had proved insurmountable.

We then found a local Canberra firm (Blackett Homes) which had a plan similar to the one we liked. We made a few variations and a revised plan was produced within a couple of days. The contrast with the previous firm was stark! Work commenced on time and, apart from a rain delay, finished on time. We were extremely happy with the standard of finish and also with the follow-up service to fix minor problems. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

We were offered a very competitive quote, which was backed up by an excellent reputation in the market and clear evidence of sound track record when doing knockdown rebuilds.

The time between knock down to the time of completion, was well within the timeframe stated in our contract and the workmanship was excellent. It was a pleasure dealing with Blackett Homes at each of the build and they made the construction of our home a fantastic experience. After choosing our block of land in Forde my wife and I tried to find a builder that we trusted to help us build our first family home, both quickly and economically, but also with a high quality finish and a stylish design. We had spent a lot of time travelling around the ACT and NSW visiting display villages and speaking to prospective vendors. Looking at the display homes we found it difficult to compare apples to apples as the standard and added extras were marketed very differently from builder to builder. Some were dismissive of us as we didn’t want to keep adding to our budget, whilst others promised us the earth without being upfront about further potential costs. We found Blackettes (Rick) to be the only builder who was upfront with us, providing realistic and helpful advice and allowing us to be flexible with the design to suit our personal taste and requirements.

We chose to build a home that we could add further value to over time. We are very pleased with the results that Blacketts have built our home which was completed on time and to the agreed budget.’
